Preparing for Your Maternity Shoot
The goal of a maternity portrait session is to capture one part maternity and one part of the expectant couple. During the maternity session I will first focus on the mother-to-be in a variety of poses, making sure to pay attention to the small details; the belly, the flowers, and the natural beauty curve of the expectant mother’s body. During the couple’s session, I strive to capture the love, companionship, and interaction between the couple. During the entire session, I capture a flow between stylized posed shots and candid natural moments.
Sedona offers a variety of beautiful outdoor shooting locations. The locations I prefer to use for maternity sessions have anywhere from 1 min up to 20 mins of walking distance. We can customize the perfect lotion for you based on how you are feeling on that day. I am flexible with changing the location on the day of the scheduled shoot if needed.
Crescent Moon Ranch (pictured) is one of my favorite maternity shooting locations. It offers a variety of different landscapes affording us the opportunity to shoot portraits taken in or near the water, again this all depends on how the expected mother is feeling. There are a wide variety of trees offering us many different colors and textures to use as backdrops to your portraits. I have a few other favorite locations that I can share with you during our initial conversation.
When preparing for a maternity session here are some helpful tips.
The best timing for a maternity session is between 28-35 weeks. This allows the bump to be visible but still early enough to feel comfortable.
Research, research, research. Feel free to share with me any inspirational shoot ideas you find on the internet or elsewhere. Feel free to communicate with me the look feel and style that you prefer; we can range between dramatic, elegant, playful, posed, and candid. Also, let’s plan on having a discussion about clothing selection for the shoot. We can discuss clothing colors, dress length, and how the dress flows. We want the images to reflect you and your beauty during this precious time.
