How much space will I need to provide for you to setup your mobile studio?
I generally ask that you provide me with at least an 8′ x 8′ area for me to comfortably setup and work around my mobile studio.  Props and other items can be kept outside of that area, but enough room for my lighting and other essentials is needed.

How long will our newborn photography session last?
On average my sessions last anywhere between 2.5 and 4.0 hours.  I ask that you leave a little extra time just in case your little one gets a little difficult to manage, then we will need to allow time for him or her to calm down.

How soon after my child is born should I schedule the session?
Ideally we should schedule your newborn’s photography session within the first two weeks after your child is born.

Do you provide props for the photo session?
I have a large variety of props to choose from.  Before the shoot we will go over color combinations that you like as well as prop styles.  I will customize the session as best as possible to suit your requests.  Based on the information you provide me, I will pre-select a general theme, with options for you to pick and choose from during the shoot.  Keep in mind that the baby runs the show, accidents can happen, so it’s best to be prepared for all and any occurrences.  Because of this I bring along a plan B prop set up.  I have various wraps, headbands, stuffed animals fabrics, furs, baskets and more!

My baby has skin imperfections, is that something that should deter us from shooting?
It is normal for the baby to develop acne and other skin imperfections. Most imperfections can be removed in editing. So there is no reason to be concerned with that.

How can we be sure that our newborn will be safe throughout the photo shoot?
I am a very cautious photographer, especially when shooting newborns I focus on very basic and easy posing. Baby’s heads and necks need support, this is one aspect I am always aware of. Your baby’s safety is my first priority, I will never force a pose if the baby seems uncomfortable. And as always, I want you to be involved in the shoot, so that we can discuss poses and ideas before we make them happen, so that you and your baby are always comfortable with the process

Do you provide family portraits during the newborn shoot?
The lighting system that I bring into your home is customized for solely for newborns. I can definitely capture a few candid pictures of you with your baby in the home. But it would not involve my mobile studio lighting or backdrops.

What is the best styles and colors to wear for family portraits?
Monochrome colors are recommended, try to avoid miss matched colors, logos or bold patterns. The simpler the better.I have a color chart that I can provide you with prior to our shoot for you to refer to.

What of lighting do you use for your newborn sessions?
I use the Paul C Buff lighting system.  This is a pro level lighting company that is best known for newborn photography lighting.  Each light is equipped with UV covering to help protect your newborn.

How should I prepare for our in-home newborn photo session?

The photos will most likely be taken in a living room or bedroom.  Be sure to clean the room or area as best a possible.  Make sure that there is a clear path to and from the shooting area which will make my load-in and load-out time faster. I bring everything I will need with me, however please be certain that I have clear and convenient access to an electrical outlet.

It’s also important o be sure to keep the temperature of your house on the warmer side, as the babies tend to get cold during the shoot.

Also making sure that there is a bottle and pacifier close by at all times will help us settle an umpy baby quicker.  They provide your baby with comfort during the long shoot.  It might also be good thing to have some diapers available in case your little one decides to let nature flow.

Try to avoid younger siblings and/or pets from being in the vicinity of the shooting area. I have a delicate lighting system that could easily break if bumped.  Also I  set up 2 tripod stands near the newborn, so if siblings or pets are left to play in or around our shooting area they can accidentally bump into the lights and stands and create problems. Also, pets can be very protective of your home and your newborn. I often ask my clients to keep all pets safely secured in a different room, and without access to our shooting area.
